2006 Junior Canadian National Women’s Team

The junior national women’s team represented Canada at the junior world championships during the dates of August 27, 2006 to September 2, 2006.

The tournament was a success and the athletes represented Canada well. The women placed as a team 5th overall, which was a huge positive at this level. Canada Wrestling is proud of our 2006 Women’s Team. Thanks for representing Canada so well!

Our men had a strong showing at the Junior Worlds. The competition was very strong for a young group, but they took a lot of experience away from the competition and will build on it for the future.

44 KG - Renilda De Dios (Guelph WC)
vs. Sakamoto (Japan)

Renilda has Equador (Piza), Ukraine (Yarova), Korea (Jang) and Guatemala (Gonzalez) on her side, and has 10 people total in the draw.

51 KG - Pam Ewanishin (Saskatoon WC)
vs. Jessica Medina (USA)

Pam also has Denmark (Pedersen) and Russia (Krasnova) on her half of the draw and there are 12 entries

59 KG - Jazmyne Barker (UofC WC)
vs. Grigorjeva (LAT)

The draw includes Venezuela (Nolaya), Austria (Maierhofer), Russia (Kanaeva) and the Ukraine (Vasylenko) on her side and there are 14 people in the draw.

67 KG - Stacie Anaka (BMWC)
vs. Kalinina (KAZ)

On her side there are Turkey (Yalmaz), Romania (Mudrag), Poland (Gribowska), Ukraine (Kvyatkovska), Russia (Laushkina) and Korea (Choe) and there are 13 people in the draw.

Jr Women's Draw - Day 1


44 KG - Renilda De Dios (Guelph WC)
vs. Sakamoto (Japan). Won by Fall in the scond round. (0-6, 3-0 Pin)
vs. Piza (Ecuador) Lost by Decision 1-3, 6-0
Renilda will wrestle Yarova (Ukraine) in the repechage in order to to get into the Bronze against Gonzalez (Guatemala).

51 KG - Pam Ewanishin (Saskatoon WC)
vs. Jessica Medina (USA). Lost by fall late in the second round. (3-2, 0-2 Pin)
Pam was eliminated when USA lost to Russia in the Semis. She will score Team Points as there were only 10 in the weight class.

59 KG - Jazmyne Barker (UofC WC)
vs. Grigorjeva (LAT) Won by Decision in 2 rounds. (6-2, 1-0)
vs. Maierhofer (AUT) Won by Decision in 2 Rounds. (3-1, 1-0)
vs. Kanaeva (RUS) Lost by Decision in 2 Rounds (0-3, 0-2)
Jazzie will wrestle Vasylenko (Ukraine) for the Bronze Medal tonight.

67 KG - Stacie Anaka (BMWC)
vs. Kalinina (KAZ) Won by Decision in 2 rounds. 1-0, 1-0
vs. Mudrag (Romania) Lost by Decision in 2 rounds. (1-1, 0-2)
Stacie was eliminated when Romania lost to Russia in the Semis. Final Placement is pending.

Junior World Women's Championships - Second Day Results


48 KG - Genevieve Haley (Metro AWC) lost by Fall in the First Period to Mattson (Sweden).
Mattson made the finals, so Gen will wrestle in the repechage this afternoon. Her first match is Sadie Kaneda (USA).
If she wins, she will face Brazil, and finally Japan in order to win the Bronze.
 

55 KG - Jill Gallays (Saskatoon WC) lost by decision in two rounds (4-0, 1-0) to Filipava (Belarus).
Belarus made the final, so Jill will westle Demouray (France) in order to get into the Bronze medal match against Mattson (Sweden)
 

63 KG - Justine Bouchard (UofC WC)
vs. Vaseva (Bulgaria) Won by Decision in 3 rounds. (0-3, 1-0 (Clinch), 1-0 (Clinch))
vs. Paulina - Miranda (Mexico) Won by Fall in the first period. (8-0, Pin)
vs. Nishimaki (Japan) Lost by decision in 2 rounds. (0-1, 0-2)
Justine will await the winner of the repechage between Cataline (USA) and Allandi (Sweden) in the Bronze Medal match.
 

72 KG - Joceln Dresser (Brock WC) lost by fall in the 1st period against Zhanibekova of Kazahkstan.
She was eliminated when Kazahkstan lost to Sweden in the next match and will likely place 11th.

Junior World Women's Championships - Second Day and Overall Women's Results


Well...no medals, but we did improve upon our team placement from last year, placing 5th. Russia was 1st, followed by Japan, USA, and Ukraine. Here are our match results from today:
