Kimberly Bergey Kaip, Coach
Craven

Kimberly has participated in numerous Canada Games as an athlete and coach. She competed in 1987 Canada Games in Judo and 1995 Western Canada Games in field hockey. As a coach she was named the coach for Judo in 1993 Canada Games, Judo Team Manager in 1991 Western Canada Games as well as a Wrestling coach at the 1999 Western Canada Games.

Ron Gonzales, Coach
Regina

Ron is originally from Edmonton and has been involved in wrestling for many years. He is a member of the Cattown wrestling club in Regina as well as a Guidance counselor with the Regina Catholic School Association. Ron looks forward to representing Saskatchewan and his athletes at the 2005 Canada Games.

Jonathon Johnson, Team Manager
Saskatoon

Jonathon has been involved in wrestling for 22 years.  His best performance as an athlete was at the Senior Provincial Championships at 62Kg, and a fifth place finish at the CIAU championships at 65Kg, both in 1992.  He wrestled five years with the U of S Huskies.  After retiring from competitive wrestling, Jonathon began coaching and is currently with the Jr. Huskies club team. Jonathon has helped coach nine National Club Champion teams, many individual National medalists, and an Olympian.

Kirk Don Ackerman, 15
Regina

Kirk has been competing in wrestling for 7 years and already has 7 provincial titles to his name. He was named the Most Outstanding lightweight Wrestler at the Balfour Classic this year. Most recently won individual gold at the 2004 provincials. Kirk looks to his past and present coaches as his role models. One day hopes to compete in the Olympics, and more immediate is looking for individual and team gold medals at these Canada Games.

Craig Albert, 18
Saskatoon

An outstanding wrestler as well as a national level rugby player. Craig has only been wrestling for 3 years, Dave Elder was the one to get him started in wrestling and convinced him to stick with it. Silver medal winner at the 2005 Juvenile National Championships in freestyle and greco. Team Canada offered him an opportunity to play international rugby and will also be competing at these Canada Games with the rugby team.

Caileigh Beckman, 17
Regina

Caileigh has been wrestling for 3 years and considers her 2nd place finish at Juvenile Nationals to be her best performance. She is also 2004 and 2005 high school city champion, 2005 provincial champion and previously competed at the 2003 Western Canada Games. Caileigh is also an honor roll student at Miller Comprehensive High School. She hopes to finish first in both team and individual events at these Canada Games.

Bryan David Blackwell, 18
Saskatoon

This 2005 Greco-Roman national champion as well as freestyle national silver medalist (50kgs) has been wrestling for 6 years. Bryan is also a 3-time SHSAA provincial champion, 2003 freestyle national bronze medalist and participated in the 2003 Western Canada Games. He looks to current wrestling stars such as Yandro Quintana, Stephen Abas and Adam Satiev as role models. At these Canada Games Bryan hopes to win both the individual and team competitions.

Mitch Bodnarchuk, 17
Saskatoon

This 2003 Western Canada Games medalist is looking for as much success this summer. Mitch was a member of the Saskatchewan wrestling team that placed 2nd at the 2003 Western Canada Games as well as individual medals. He is also the 2001 cadet nationals silver medalist. When Mitch isn’t wrestling, he enjoys biking and roller blading.

Calvin Daum, 15
Regina

Calvin is a 7-time Saskatchewan Amateur Wrestling Association provincial champion, as well as SAWA Bantam Wrestler of the Year. Calvin has been wrestling for 8 years and looks to Lionel Stratsky as his role model. Calvin hopes to represent Canada one day at the Olympics, and this summer is looking to win a medal and cheer on his sister, Nicole, who is also competing at these Games in wrestling.

Nicole Elizabeth Daum, 16
Regina

Nicole has been wrestling for 10 years and will be competing along side her brother, Calvin, at these 2005 Canada Games. She previously finished 3rd at the 2004 Saskatchewan Summer Games, 2nd at the 2003 Western Canada Games, and was the 2004 National Champion. Nicole also received the Most Outstanding Wrestler in 2004 at the Cadet Championships. She is looking forward to trying her hardest and making top 3.

Stephany Lynn Dergo, 17
Saskatoon

Stephany has only been wrestling for 3 years but has already won Nationals and Provincials. This year, she was 2nd at Nationals and was named to the National Team. She currently attends Evan Hardy High School in Saskatoon and one day hopes to represent Canada internationally. This summer, Stephany plans to help maintain her team’s #1 ranking and hopes for an individual medal as well.

Spencer Edwards, 17
Saskatoon

Spencer is a 2004 National Champion and 8-time provincial champion. He is also 2-time high school city champion, Balfour Wrestling Classic Outstanding middleweight wrestler as well as being selected to Team Canada that competed on the 2004 Japan Tour Team. Dave Elder, his high school coach is his role model; he also enjoys fishing, jogging, snowboarding and swimming. Spencer is looking to win a medal in the individual and team competition.

Pamela Anne Ewanishin, 18
Saskatoon

Saskatchewan Amateur Wrestling Association named Pamela their most outstanding cadet award. She has previously competed in the Western Canada Games in 2003, as well as numerous national and provincial competitions. This 3-time National champ and 2-time National Cadet team member. Pamela has been wrestling for 6 years and also enjoys skiing.

Chris Hobman, 18
Saskatoon

Chris currently competes for the Jr. Huskies in Saskatoon under 2001 Canada Games head coach, Shane Bradley. He recently placed 2nd at Juvenile Nationals, won High School as well as Provincial Championships in 2005. Chris also enjoys rugby and is looking to win the team as well as individual medals.

Adam Peter Kent, 17
Saskatoon

This Pan Am silver medalist has been competing in wrestling for 7 years. Adam currently competes under coach, Dave Elder in Saskatoon. He is also heavy involved in football; he was named Outstanding Heavy Weight Wrestler as well as Outstanding Defensive Football player. Chris previously competed in the 2003 Western Canada Games where he won individual gold and silver in the team event. Adam hopes to compete in the Olympics one day and wants Individual and Team gold at these Canada Games.

Allysa Krahn, 18
Saskatoon

Allysa has won high school provincials four times in a row (grade 9-12). She won the juvenile national wrestling championships this year and just recently graduated from High School.  Allysa is a favorite to win an individual medal, perhaps the gold and help the team win a gold medal as well.

Samantha McKay, 16
Regina

Samantha has only been wrestling for 3 years and has already achieved much success. She was 2nd at Cadet Nationals as well as 3rd at High School Provincials. Samantha maintains an honor roll average at Campbell Collegiate and also enjoys reading. She looks to her dad as a role model and is looking for gold at these Canada Games.

Sarah Mercer, 17
Regina

Sarah Mercer was a High School City Champion and Provincial High School silver medalist this year.  Last year, she won a gold at the National Cadet Wrestling Championships in St. Catherines, Ontario.  She placed fifth this year at the juvenile nationals in St. Johns, Newfoundland and is the alternate on the FILA Cadet National Team that will be competing at the Pan American Games in August.  Sarah is going into grade twelve next year.

Ryan Myrfield, 15
Saskatoon

Ryan was a gold medalist at the 2003 Western Canada Games and is looking to repeat that victory individually or as a team. He has 4 provincial gold medals, as well as a bronze at Nationals. Ryan enjoys all sports and hopes to continue wrestling as long as it remains fun.

Daniel Olver, 17
Saskatoon

This gold medalist and Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Juvenile Wrestling Nationals, is hoping to go all the way in the sport of wrestling and to win gold at these Canada Games. Daniel has been on the honor roll for 2 years and has also won many more wrestling awards as well as football awards. Outside of wrestling, Daniel enjoys video games, chess and square dancing.

Bradley Vernon Peters, 18
Swift Current

Bradley credits his high school coach and teacher, Curtis Biem for getting him into wrestling. He recently won a bronze medal at Juvenile Nationals as well as a bronze at the 2003 Western Canada Games. Brad would like to compete internationally and to take home gold from these Canada Games.

Annie Quangtakoune, 16
Regina

This Anaheim, California native comes to these Canada Games with 3 years of wrestling experience. Anne was named Archbishop M.C O’Neil’s Most Outstanding Junior Female this year as well as placing 3rd at the 2004 Windsor nationals. Anne hopes to compete to the best of her ability and to help Team Saskatchewan win a gold medal.

Jasmine Slinn, 15
Regina

As the youngest member of Team Saskatchewan’s women’s wrestling team, Jasmine is looking to try her hardest. She is a current member of Cattown Wrestling club in Regina and is coached by Kim Bergey and has been competing for 5 years. Jasmine also enjoys soccer and track&field.

Beth Berry Thompson, 18
Saskatoon

Beth has over 7 years experience in wrestling and has seen much success. 2005 Junior National Champion, 3-time Cadet/Juvenile National Champion, Balfour’s 2003 & 2004 Most Outstanding Female Athlete, SAWA Outstanding Cadet Athlete and a recipient of the U of S Greystone Scholarship. Beth looks to Christine Nordhagen, a 6-time World Champion and Olympian for encouragement. She has previously competed at the 2004 Saskatchewan Summer Games and the 2003 Western Canada Games.
